Excel Sites and Resources

oundup sounds much better than link dump doesn’t it? Anyway I’ll drop some links occasionally from my bookmark folder to permanent storage here. Maybe you’ll find them useful as well. Programmable Web Api’s – When a service provider opens up their data via an api, usually that data can be consumed in Excel. Here’s a […]

Excel Video PodCasting Via MrExcel
Just stumbled on the site Learn Excel from MrExcel Video Podcast. Bill Jellen already has a couple dozen videos up and it looks like he’s still updating almost daily. Very cool. The picture-in-picture is a great addition also. A couple more links: Podcast Feed, Directions on Subscribing with Itunes (note, the file format is mp4, […]

An Excel Blog named Excel Blog
ExcelBlog.net is a new blog about Excel! Subscribed! (that will be a really cool domain name if Excel ships with a .Net IDE) To answer your question “beyond the neato factor, would one use an Excel sheet with an embedded Google map“: Specifically, I worked on spreadsheets in the logistics industry for awhile and can […]

Excel Watch
John Walkenbach just launched a blog on the upcoming release of Excel 12. Excel Watch – “The purpose of this blog is to provide a central source for information about the next version of Excel.” Awesome idea, and considering the Office 12 preview site appears to have been forgotten already and still lacks an RSS […]

Bite-sized Spreadsheets for Sharing
NumSum is a new community for creating online spreadsheets, tagging and sharing them. I created a test spreadsheet you can view here. It was rather simple to add a link, some calculating cells, and an image. The interface mimics Excel pretty well. I did get a “There was a global error processing your request.” error […]

Gummy Stuff – For Investors
I just spent some time digging around the site gummy stuff … about Investing (mostly) Not “officially” an Excel website, but there are loads of Excel spreadsheet examples with the tutorials. For instance, here’s one of the most useful tutorials on consuming Yahoo Stock Data I’ve seen. (via the Delicious feed of Nathan Slaughter.)

Contextures Gets RSS
Debra Dalgleish has an Excel site called Contextures.com, which in my opinion has some of the best Excel tutorials on the web. If you look at the bottom of her homepage you’ll see she now has an RSS feed! I’d recommend subscribing to keep up to date on when new tutorials become available. The blogroll […]

The Missing Manual
Finally, Excel will make sense! O’Reilly found Excel’s Missing Manual, the second Excel book realesed by O’reilly in the past month. I’m guessing: “The Missing Manual” is their equivalent of the Excel Bible (the Table Of Contents look similar), “Excel Annoyances” is the equivalent of a “Dummies” book, and “Excel Hacks” is a cliff notes […]
