Shortcut to Merge and Unmerge Cells

Merging combines two or more cells into one, larger cell. There are several different ways to merge cells.

Shortcut to Merge and Unmerge Cells

Merge & Center 

Merge & Center combines cells and centers the text.

The shortcut to Merge & Center is:

  1. Highlight cells to merge
  2. Type Alt > H > M > C

Merge and Center

Merge Across

Merge across will merge the highlighted cells and align it to the left.

Note: In this scenario, the text can only be merged in one row, as shown below.

The shortcut to Merge Across is:

  1. Highlight cells to merge
  2. Type Alt > H > M > A

Merge Across

Merge Cells

Merge across will merge the highlighted cells and align it to the left.

Note: In this scenario, the text can be merged into multiple rows, as shown below.

The shortcut to Merge Across is:

  1. Highlight cells to merge
  2. Type Alt > H > M > M

Merge Cells

Unmerge Cells

Once cells are merged, they can be unmerged.

The shortcut to un-merge is:

  1. Click on the merged cells
  2. Type Alt > H > M > U
