Our History

AutomateExcel.com was founded in 2004 by Microsoft Certified Excel Expert Mark Wielgus. It quickly became one of the go-to resources for automating Excel.

In 2016, Steve Rynearson acquired the site and he has operated as the Chief Excel Officer.

In 2017, Steve launched AutoMacro, an add-in for the VBA Editor that makes VBA coding easier for everyone (beginners to experts).

In 2023, Steve released another Excel automation add-in: AutoMacro for Excel. This add-in helps users automate Excel without any coding.

AutomateExcel.com is focused on developing AI-solutions for Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

The Team

Owner / Chief Excel Officer

Steve Rynearson

Steve worked as an actuary for Aon Hewitt where he developed Excel training for new hires. He left Aon Hewitt to found Spreadsheet Boot Camp LLC where he created Spreadsheet Boot Camp and trained students at leading universities in Excel. He also provided Excel / VBA consulting services to many organizations including the Society of Actuaries (SOA) where he advised on Excel best practices and developed Excel materials used in the SOA’s accreditation process. He has almost 20 years of in-depth experience with Microsoft Excel.

He serves as an Editor on AutomateExcel.com and is the developer of the Excel add-ins found on the site.

Steve holds a B.B.A in Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, and Risk Management from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Web Developer

Brian Morrison

Brian started as a full-stack website developer in 2013, joining AutomateExcel.com in 2021. Over the years Brian has work on a variety of websites such as tools to help with employee management, news publication websites such as Crain, to even government websites such as VA.gov. With a strong foundation in both front-end and back-end technologies, he has mastered a diverse range of programming languages and frameworks, including, but not limited to, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, and PHP. Known for his problem-solving skills and attention to detail, Brian excels in creating responsive, intuitive, and scalable websites. In addition to his technical expertise, Brian is passionate about keeping up to date with the latest industry trends and continuously expanding his skill set through professional development courses and self-learning.

Laura Tsitlidze

Laura worked as an actuary at Assurant Specialty Property for 8 years, during which she used Excel extensively, becoming an expert. She left to pursue her passion for publishing and now works at LauraTEdits.com as a copy editor in addition to her role as an editor at AutomateExcel.com. She has 10+ years of experience as an editor.

Laura holds a B.A. in Statistics from Rice University and a M.A. in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University. She also holds an Advanced Editing Certificate from the Poynter Institute.

Shannon Garavaglia, PhD.

Shannon started her career as an Audit Associate at KPMG where she quickly became an Excel expert. As an Assistant Professor at University of Pittsburgh, she received the Katz Excellence in Teaching Award for her course on Accounting Information Systems, which covered (among other topics) Microsoft Excel.

Shannon currently advises AutomateExcel.com on effective teaching strategies and psychology.

Shannon graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.B.A in Accounting from Loyola University Chicago. She also holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Texas – Austin.
